NEGERI
SEMBILAN, Fri: A family of seven face a joyless Raya when their wooden house
was razed to the ground in Kampung Telaga yesterday.
With
Raya celebrations just around the corner, postal clerk Encik Salleh and his
family are uncertain about their future as they have lost almost
everything.
They could not save their belongings as the
flames, fanned by strong winds, spread through the wooden house within minutes.
Encik Salleh, 42, said,”We were sitting in the
living room when we heard a small explosion in the kitchen at about 4.30p.m. I
quickly ordered everyone out of the house before another explosion took place.
The whole house was ablaze within minutes.”
Encik Salleh and his family watched helplessly as
the flames engulfed their home before the fire engines arrived.
Firemen only arrived at the scene about 10
minutes later. They had difficulty in putting out the raging fire due to the
narrow road leading to the house and the absence of a fire hydrant in the
squatter area. The fire was brought under control within half an hour.
Encik Salleh said he recently spent RM3000 to
repair the house for Raya celebrations. The family hopes to seek temporary
shelter with relatives.

Read the passage and
complete the following task.
Many
accidents happen when children board the bus to and from the school. Prevention
is the key to school bus safety. Get to the bus stop at least ten minutes
before the school bus is expected to arrive. This will prevent you from having
to run after the bus. While waiting for the bus, always stay on the sidewalk.
If there is no sidewalk, walk on the left against the flow of the traffic. When
crossing the street, remember to look to the left, then to the right and to the
left once more before crossing. When the bus is approaching the bus stop, take
five steps back. Do not rush towards the bus. Wait until the bus comes to a
complete stop before climbing onto the bus. Once inside the bus, sit down
quietly. Never play inside a bus as this may distract the driver. When getting
off the bus, wait until the bus comes to a complete stop before getting off.
TASK

the main ideas on how to ensure school
bus safety.
